I am really curious about something? Triverse has been going around the internet touting how OOPA is better than Retromags because of the following...

1) Retromags has NO PERMISSION to host anything
2) Retromags accepts donations which look like "SELLING"

Now even though you both defended the system when you were on Retromags....lets forego that for just a second.

Retromags has 3 options for "distributing scans"....

Rapidshare - anyone can download from, dont even need to register (let alone donate) to use!
MegaUpload - anyone can download from, dont even need to register (let alone donate) to use!

Now those first two options require NOTHING of ANYONE to use. But we go a step further and provide 1 more option...

Direct - anyone with 25 posts, anyone who moderates, anyone who contributes, and the final piece you have an issue with.....anyone who donates a few dollars!

You have stated yourself that OOPA will only use Rapidshare, thats fine.....Retromags uses Rapidshare also! Not really seeing where you can call us out for selling, if we provide 2 free options also.

But it gets a great deal better, but let me put this disclaimer first....

I Phillyman have nothing but respect and admiration for Mort and his project. While we may provide scans differently, I consider his site to be the big brother of Retromags. I have no issues with how Mort provides his scans, I am only showing how some people like to twist things out of context.

So now you decide to put some of Morts material on your site, last time I checked the only way to get items from Mort...is to donate a few dollars for him to burn you a DVD and mail it to you.

Retromags = 2 free download options, 1 paid/contribute download option
Mort = 1 paid/donate option for a physical copy to be mailed

The kicker is.....Mort states freely on his website that he has NO PERMISSION to provide these scans.....geez where have I heard that before? Oh thats right, Triverse was calling out Retromags for the same thing!

Quote
Please note: These collections are not offical nor for the most part, endorsed by the publishers of these magazines (not that many of them are still around) but we believe it is important for them to be available to people to view rather than be lost forever. These magazines chart the rise of gaming from a bedroom industry to a multi billion pound one and are of some historical importance. The DVDs are also not sold for profit but rather forced donationware! Of your £11.99, around 61p goes to Paypal, £1.38 goes to this website to help pay for hosting costs and the rest (£10) goes to Mort, which he spends on: buying magazine issues to scan from eBay, buying scanners (he's gone through 12+ so far!), some beer and of course the dvd disk, case, inlay and postage (worldwide). Many of these magazine scans can be found on various websites and the DVDs were originally produced to save people time downloading them all and to stop my web server's bandwidth being leeched to death. They were NOT created to make loads of money off other people's written work!

I remember Mort giving me permission to host his magazines at Retromags, Both Triverse and Meppi were against any affiliation with Mort or his website at the time. I believe Mort wanted to do an exchange with Retromags, he was looking for permission to use Meppi's OSSM magazines at Zzap64, and we could use his scans over at Retromags....below are both of their responses on the matter....kind of funny now that they are OK with providing Morts work over here.

Meppi and Triverse's thoughts on Mort
http://www.retromags.com/forums/topic/4116-mort/

Meppi and Triverse both came out and stated that they believed Mort would damage the Retromags project with his actions.

So that shows where Triverse really stands on an affiliation with Mort, It would undermine the project and create negativity with the connections he had made.....those are Triverses words not mine.....I never did use anything that Mort gave me, because I thought it would be terribly rude to use his material over at Retromags, when we had no intention of returning the favor. But hey, to each his own......

So I see the little game continues.

I said I wasn't going to go back into all this BS after my last post and I still don't plan on doing that.

What I do resent is how everything seems to be twisted into something it is not until it fits your agenda.
No matter what I say, you always seem to ignore parts you can't cope with and start arguing about another out of context ripped quote.

If you want to play mr. innocent to the outside world, you just do that. Trying to cover up things you've said before by either deleting them yourself or having a mod on another forum delete those, because you're afraid that things you say in a fit of rage might have people think twice about how upfront you really are.

It's plain to see what your little plan is here, get Mort angry at Triverse and myself for things we supposedly said behind his back and getting him to endorse you so you can get the exclusive rights to his scans.
If that's how you want it, I won't fight you about it. Show everyone else what you're made of for a change.

As for Mort, he's wise enough to decide what he wants to do with his work, so if your little stint makes him want to pull support for both of our sites, then we on our part will honor his request.

I don't see how anything was said behind closes doors that shouldn't have been said.
I respect Mort very much as he's the person who gave me the idea of scanning my OSSM magazines 3 years ago.
I was asked if he could use my scans for his future DVDs and I was apprehensive about that and still am to this day.
Is it wrong that I was afraid to offend him by giving a simple NO? It's not like we had any concrete plans to release his magazines at the time on RM, so it certainly wasn't a case of me trying to let him down easy just because we could profit from his work.
It was me trying to find the right words (which isn't always that easy since I'm not a native English speaker)to tell him that I wasn't comfortable with having my scans being sold by anyone as it might get me in trouble and indirectly RM as well.
That's why I put it forward in the group, since the possible implementations could affect the whole site, especially since we were under scrutiny by 3rd parties at the time.

Nice of you to make that post visible to everyone now. Bravo.
Too bad I don't have copies of certain other things that were put up in the top regions of the site as it would surely open up some eyes.
Your statement in there was pretty much everything you've ever done this past year, let others make the difficult discussions while you site back and watch, so when something goes wrong you would have something to hang over their heads and control them.

Just like the E-Day topic.
Asking me and tiverse to find as many things he has said so you could spell it out for him when you eventually would ban him, yet that wasn't specifically mentioned in that particular topic. So yet again it seems that we were looking to hang him while you stayed quiet observe what we said. That post will possible be used now or already has been used to show E-Day how we wanted him removed.
As I don't think you've sent him copies of the PMs you sent me or the post you made where you said you took full responsibility for demodding him because it was your mistake in the first place to make him a mod.
And then you cry foul when people who have worked with you for a considerable amount of time call you two-faced?

There are plenty more examples, but what does it even matter, you'll twist them around anyway as you have done the past couple of weeks.

About triverse bad mouthing RM on other boards, the comments that he has made are directed towards the way RM is run IE by you.
It's not the project itself that's become the problem, otherwise we wouldn't be continuing it in the matter we feel is the right one.

Why do you think triverse has been on edge lately and has prepared to fend off any accusations you throw at him?
Because you've been following him around the web on every board he hangs out at and even at the sites he works for.
How would you feel when your former "friend" kept stalking you like that?

And now you want to scream to the whole gaming community how we are the bad apples and how no one should support us or even talk to us?
Then why in the word would you have sent all those PMs and emails where you were basically in tears trying to get us back to work for you?
The problem is that the damage had been done, and you blew any chance of future cooperation once you started posting those offensive personal attacks against either of us, trying to save face in front of "your" members. Even though you deleted those afterwards yet again because they showed your true colors.

I'm getting tired of playing your games to be quit frank.
It's going nowhere and you won't stop until our site seizes to exist, that's the whole point.
Doing it either by scaring away members or by narcing us out to whichever authority figure you can think of like you have done to several other sites in the past because they didn't want to play ball with you.

Damnit, I have already said that I wasn't gonna let you trick me into playing your game, and just look at this.
Another angry post that doesn't do noone ay good, and that will no doubt be used to counter with some more half-truths.

I'm done with you, now move along to your own side of the web and try to do something positive for a change. Sad

Thats a great bunch of text above, but did nothing to clarify the accusations...

Unlike you I will keep this short....

1) Triverse bashed Retromags on multiple sites because we have NO PERMISSION from Publishers to provide any of our material.

But yet you are providing links to Maximum, Nintendo Magazine and such! It seems a bit two faced to me, you have no "formal" agreement with any publisher. Sure you may get a nod from a publisher, but that means nothing legally! Then you turn around and start hosting Mort's material, when he openly states he has NO PERMISSION. But months ago you acted as though even being associated with him was toxic for Retromags. I went with the flow like I did with many things because I didnt want to lose you. So I let the connection with Mort disappear due to your opinions on his site.

2) Triverse basically came out and stated that I am selling magazines!

You and I both know that I provide 2 free options to EVERYONE, and the final option is based on a reward system. Help out the website and you can download directly. But yet again you want to act dumb and hope that people drink that koolaid your passing around. You want to tell me that I am trying to destroy both our sites? Bull! I told you I am not following Triverse! He went over to J2Games and posted trash, and then I let it go and find out that now he is over at AtariAge posting more trash. Oh but it doesnt stop there, EVERY change I make on Retromags since he left....he likes to comment on Twitter about it...

Retromags- Congrats to E-day, now a SuMod. I have been banned, everyone take care http://bit.ly/3QajWN
12:27 AM Sep 27th from web

I never pulled ANYTHING out of the SuMod, ADMIN or PM system to throw against either one of you, but Triverse logged in and posted every single thing he could find to use against me. Now you want to complain because you have skeletons on Retromags too? Get over it!

As I have already said too many times, I do not want to continue down the road of stupid arguments and fabrication which leads none of us anywhere.  Sad

Oh and by the way, nice job on killing all the Rapidshare links over at Retromags, each day your actions just get better and better Meppi. How did breaking 600 Rapidshare links hurt me? No thats right, it hurt the people that visit the site, you only gave me 5 hours of work to do.

This isn't the first time and it won't be the last probably that you mistook something I done for bad intentions on my end.

How many times do I have to say this! I'm not like that.

I'll let the nice Rapidshare mail I got to the talking as I don't even want to copy&paste the statement I made about this on your site:

Well isnt that a kick in the ass, score one for you!

Kind of makes you wonder how they can sell you something and then change the rules. I apologize for accusing you, in my defense though you arent returning any of my Private Messages

Wait, that almost fooled me....your good Meppi!!!!

All that email states is that if you have over 25GB of material, that they can delete items that havent been downloaded in 90+ days. Says nothing about them capping how much you have.

Well they are assholes, just look at the cats they have used in the past for non members. That explains it all.
They know people need them so they take advantage of you once they have your money in hand...

The PM thing, eum. Check your inbox, I was writing a small screenplay before I clicked "send".

Sorry that I posted that last item before seeing your PM. I was not expecting you to reply back...lets just drop it on both fronts now. This is what I just sent you....

Look Meppi, I am fine with however you want to proceed. I do miss you over at Retromags, and I know what I did was shitty. I still can't come up with any valid reason for me demoting you. Other than I blew my top at Triverse and took it out on both of you. I really don't expect you to come back, nor would I if the roles were reveresed.

Basically I just want to move on right now, I dont want to be looking over my shoulder to defend Retromags against Triverses statements. I know the project is closely associated with me, but hate me....not the project. Call me a liar, call me a dick.... but dont go and question the legality of what is being done. That does nothing to help anyone, all it does is scare people away from contributing. I am not becoming rich off Retromags, thats not the purpose of the site. All I want to do is scan some magazines and make people happy.

This is my fault, your are right....when you ask for people to give their time and patience to a project like ours....they give a part of themselves to that project. I started Retromags with a forum and 1 scanned Nintendo Power, I just figured if I scanned and distributed that everything would work out. Its now 4 years later and I am realizing that this project is having problems because its never had a solid foundation. Every single problem that has presented itself over the years, is due to the fact that I never made things clear on Retromags.

Oh crap, you just read my last post before I got this Private Message. Now your all pissed again....

Philly, this has gone on long enough. You promised you would give this topic a rest. The reason they are using those 'services' is for three reasons:

1.) I offered to host their site on my servers but under one condition: they find another source to host the magazine scans.
2.) They felt people shouldn't have to donate, or sign up, to download the magazine scans (which is a must at your website)
3.) The don't particularly like how you mouth off in private but play King Jesus in public.

You are not to bring this trash to this message board. Post anything remotely related to this topic again and you will be banned.

This is your one and only warning.
