Barbie! What's up man?!? Haven't talked to you in awhile. Welcome to Out-of-Print, stay awhile and enjoy everything we have to offer so far (more is being added as we have time-believe me, it takes time to put worthwhile stuff together).

Thanks to you both. Nice to be here! I really like the scans you have uploaded so far. The "preview" before you download the mag is great.

Believe me, we are all very happy to have you here as well. That's part of our big focus, to give people a preview of what can be expected from the magazine before they go through the trouble of downloading them. The quality of the online articles is naturally downscaled quite a bit so that they load up nice and fast. It's not really feasible to put full magazines up like that, but then again that's never been our intention. We'd much rather create a database of standout articles and such for a variety of systems. Doing it this way also has the advantage that when you're at work or simply don't have the time to download a complete magazine and start looking for a certain article, you can just go to the site and read them immediately, while keeping all the advantages like the superior quality as well as having the complete magazine from front to cover available as well as a cbz download. The way the site is set up, it does take a bit of time to get a release out but we don't mind at all when we see and hear how people really enjoy these features.

I was just discussing that very same thing about the online articles, which is a fantastic way to get an idea of the magazine's look and quality of the scan. A brilliant idea, and it looks so good up on the screen and along with fine touches, such as content lists of each issue, make the website a must for people after relevant retro magazine content. I also love the unique "Thank you" pages used for each magazine - another great idea.

Believe me, we are all very happy to have you here as well. Thanks meppi. Yeah, and its so much better to get one mag a week than 10 with zero editing.

One thing that's been bothering me a bit is the thought of not having a search option on the site, so you can put a name of a game into it and have all the relevant magazines pop up. Although it might not be that important since we have a system by system database being built up alphabetically with every new release. I'm trying to get one magazine out a week with full updates and all, so the site gets a nice constant flow of content and doesn't have any real dry spells while we work on getting new issues ready. What this also means is that it gives individual issues a bit more time to shine when they are first released, and thus gives people more incentive to actually read through them, which is what everyone who work on these really wants. I have several backissues ready to like a couple of OSSM and Club Nintendo ones, for the weeks where we might not have anything ready to be presented to the public. But it's all very flexible. The bigger the backlog, if you can call it that grows, the more frequent the releases might become. It all depends really.

Game Zone used to be multi platform (Sega & Nintendo) but split into Sega Zone and Game Zone in a similar split as Mean Machines when it split into Mean Machines Sega and Nintendo Magazine System. Incidentally, Sega Zone went through the mill, being passed from Dennis Publishing to Future Publishing before dying with Maverick Magazines.

It's so sad to see magazines being thrown around from one publisher to the next. Whatever connection the original crew build up with the readers is always completely destroyed in such a move as they get replaced by others, and sometimes the whole spirit of the magazine gets destroyed as well to create something that might sell better but probably won't.

Take some time and do stuff away from the computer, it shouldn't be something that causes you pain or trouble Barbie, just enjoy doing the scans and stuff.

We all like doing this stuff. That is why we started OoPA. Back to the basics, back to presenting the mags as collectables and keeping focus on them, not us. Keep up the great scanning work.

Hehe, yeah that's the truth isn't it. Even when sometimes you're working on a certain section of a magazine which is giving you a huge headache due to the way it is damaged in one way or another and you are scratching your head about how to go through restoring it so that people won't even know the page has been touched, at the end of the day, you're glad you did it. I clearly remember how I was out of the game for a good month and how one of the things I constantly was thinking about was that I was looking forward to getting back to work on the magazines I love so much.

Not sure if it is included in any of the auctions currently on ebay but there are a couple of sellers offering posters and other supplements from various magazines in sets of 20 or 30 of them for $10+ depending on the seller. You might want to check there.
