Doesn't look too bad:

http://gadgets.softpedia.com/news/FC-16-Go-is-The-Portable-SNES-Console-of-Your-Nightmares-6820-01.html

The negatives from this review really shows where we are in terms of gaming.  Most folks would rather play roms than the actual carts.  Here's an ebay auction for it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-SILVER-SNES-16-BIT-RETRO-LCD-FC-GO-MOBILE-SYSTEM_W0QQitemZ110466499864QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games?hash=item19b8510518

I love the fact that they show a picture from a PS2 game on the screen.  And, what is that game on the TV screen?  Some new Street Fighter beat'em up?  Then, the best of all, at the bottom there's a disclaimer about the SNES handheld NOT playing Street Fighter.  It doesn't?!?  Didn't the SNES have a few Street Fighter games released for it?!?!

Yes, it is indeed a sad day when people would rather belittle such a cool handheld as this one.  I wonder if the person even tried it out (his comment about not seeing anything about a game built in leads me to believe that they simply "reviewed" a press release (gee, I know of a couple of sites that do that, but they will not be named).

Rather than reading that crap review they put up, I would like to hear from someone that has one of these systems, I mean, how about a real review?  Something with some info on compatibility (these things always have some games that won't work, which ones these are is my burning question).

Thanks for the info Nickerous, it is a great little handheld, at least so far, I think so in concept (who didn't want an actual handheld SNES back in the day?).

Well, I did order this and got it in a couple weeks ago.  I talked about it briefly on The Retro league, Episode 10 (out now!  theretroleague.com), but I thought I'd expand on a my "review".

First, I heard that Yobo is releasing another version of this very handheld, but the only difference I've heard of is the L and R buttons being bigger.  The main thing that ruins this portable for me, is the on-board d-pad.  It's way to mushy.  I really have to press the thing down for the system to register the direction I want to go.  This is extremely frustrating on high paced games like Super Mario World.  I'm guessing it wouldn't be that big of a deal on RPGs and such.  The next thing that bugs me is the screen.  It's way too blurry for my tastes.  That's not to say it's a terrible screen, but any blur would count as a negative to me.  There are other negatives, but that's just me being picky.

As for the positives, the best feature from this unit is the wireless controllers.  They may look like crap, but they are excellent for gaming on this thing.  The wireless is NOT line of sight like the FC mobile 2.  I can move around while playing and the controller never looses signal (I suppose it would if you moved far enough away from it).  Another really good thing is that the included tv-out looks great.  Some colors may be a bit off, but not enough to notice.  Basically, this looks BETTER than any other SNES I have on my 13" tv.  That includes the original (unless it's been that long since I've had an original hooked up).  I'll have to research that statement to make sure, but the output looks REALLY good.

So, bottom line?  If you don't have another SNES, this is a great buy.  If you want one just for the portability aspect, I'd wait for another release (and I'm not talking about Yobo's planned revision of this console).

Nice write up on the FC 16 Go portable there Nick.  Compliments the review you gave on episode #10 of The Retroleague.

Too bad the system is not so good as a portable (as many will be wanting to use it for that purpose).  It is nice to know though about the controllers though, at least there is a light in the darkness so to speak.

Have you found any games that don't work on it yet?  I ask because most of these clones have something that won't run on them (some have trouble with the Mega man X games since they used custom Capcom chips, or with Star Fox and other SFX chip games).

The only one so far is Madden 94.  The controls don't work right in the menus for some reason.  I would guess that the special chip games would not work either.

This actually has me worried for when the time comes when our original system have all kicked the bucket. Makes me sad to think about it.
I sometimes wonder why companies like Nintendo and Sega don't release old systems and peripherals in a limited capacity.
There has to be a market for that stuff, even though it would be very small.
I'd buy 5 of each.  Grin

The TV out made me curious, but then again that's why I bought a Japanese Super Famicom system since it has native RGB out, which gives the best possible picture.
The trouble with that though is finding an RGB compatible Tv in the US.
At least there's something positive videogame related from living in Europe. Wink

I don't want to think about having to play my classic games through composite or S-video...

I wonder why the special chips don't work on these clones, I mean, the hardware is completely on the cartridge, that was the point of them so you would think it would work on a clone (probably a key piece of security silicon or something is not emulated).

Madden 94 huh?  Ah well, at least it is a sports title that not many will be playing (maybe I am wrong, is that the one that the ambulance runs over the players on the field?).  It is weird that it is a menu navigation problem though.

I agree meppi, it would be awesome to see Nintendo or Sega release a classic system in limited quantities.  Or at least license it out like Sega has done with many of their systems (the Genesis 3 with Metro or someone getting rights to it and JVC doing the X-Eye, etc).  I guess the Genesis 3 wasn't perfect though since for some odd reason, Virtual Racing would run on it (why wouldn't it run on an officially licensed system?).

The biggest reason I don't see Nintendo and other companies from back then doing like Atari (there are many Atari classics from various companies available for $20 in those All in One controller systems) is because of the Virtual Console and the other online networks (and the embracing of many companies of releasing their games on disc format for the various systems).

Companies like Nintendo may look at re-releasing the SNES as an expensive hindrance (I am sure the factories that made the cartridges are long changed over to something else).  Especially when they can simply release the games they want on Wii through Virtual Console (which will to some extent help sell Wii's).  Sad but that is the way things seem to be right now.  Maybe in another 10 years we will start seeing NES Advantage type All in One's at the local store with Super Mario Bros 1-3, Donkey Kong, Pro Wrestling and a few other games.  Maybe.

Nintendo would say that they are addressing those concerns with the virtual console.  Is your NES or SNES dead or dying?  Why not play it on this brand new Wii system!  It's great!  No cartridges to mess up!  No pin connection issues!  Just play!  Oh yeah, that'll be $5-$15 per game, please.  Hey, we're not doing this just for you.  We need some money.  We don't care that you bought the same thing 20 years ago.  If you want to play it now, you'll have to pay again.  No, we don't care that you bought it 7 years ago when we re-released it for the Game Boy.  If you wanted it for a home system, you should have waited.

At least Sega had a hand in the newest Sega Genesis portable that Hyperkin released.  I don't think they really did anything other than give Hyperkin their blessings and maybe a list of games to include inside the machine.  I may even have to pick that up at some point in time.
