- New portable hardware
- To be announced at E3
- Uses 3D
- Release BEFORE March 2011

Still not much official details at this point, but word on the floor of GDC 2010 was:

1) Two screens, with virtually no seam between them when open
2) Screens are higher resolution, but exact resolution is unknown
3) Powered by nVidia Tegra
4) Roughly as powerful as a Gamecube, and apparently similar to program for
5) Uses carts - believed to be same size as DS/DSi carts, only with different guts
6) Due out in 2010 in at least one territory
7) Accelerometer for motion control

To Whom It May Concern:

Nintendo Co., Ltd.(Minami-ward of Kyoto-city, President Satoru Iwata) will launch “N intendo 3D S”(temp) during the fiscal year ending March 2011, on which games can be enjoyed with 3D effects without the need for any special glasses.
“Nintendo 3DS”(temp) is going to be the new portable game machine to succeed “Nintendo DS series”, whose cumulative consolidated sales from Nintendo amounted to 125million units as of the end of December 2009, and will include backward compatibility so that the software for Nintendo DS series, including the ones for Nintendo DSi, can also be enjoyed.
We are planning to announce additional details at E3 show, which is scheduled to be held from June 15, 2010 at Los Angeles in the U.S.

Man, this seems like bull#%@. Another DS update?! Seems like Nintendo is getting harcore greedy. Like give some more space inbetween system releases.

I hate it when companies don't give enough life for current systems. It started with the Dreamcast prematurely killed the Saturn, and I seen Microsoft do the same for XBox. Now I know that it's backwards campatible, but my point still stands.

This would of been perfectly fine if they didn't introduce the bigger screen DS. I loved that the Nintendo's portable systems had the longest life out of any system.

Other than that, I guess I'm definately overreacting. Cheesy

Oh, and on a side note, I kinda hate how game systems are advancing way too fast, so fast that developers are barely capable to tap a system (that's a nice thing about the Wii and DS). Seems like Gameboy Advance and Gameboy DS were like the last Retro systems. Oher than that, the 3D Technology seems like it could bring back some spark into videogames, if too soon maybe? Roll Eyes Ah what the heck to I know what I'm talking about.

What's everybody elses opinion?

I understand where you're coming from, but since I got my original DS when it was released in Japan, I'm more than ready to jump into a brand new one. Remember it will be about a year before we get to play it ourselves.

Also, don't look at the DSlite, DSi and DSiXL as new systems, they should be seen as upgrades like the Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Light and Game Boy Color, or even the GBA, GBA SP and Micro.
They were all just a mere refresh and this new 3DS will be the actually successor.

Remember this is coming from someone who bought an original DS, 2DS lites (hinge broke and couldn't be without a DS long enough before Nintendo shipped a new one), as well as a DSi. And I just recently got the XL which I love to pieces.
It's my favourite iteration of one of my personal favourite systems ever.

I actually love that they improve upon the system once an upgrade is viable like they are doing with their handheld line.
It would be painful for me to think that I would still be playing on my original system with not so hot screen right now, not to mention miss out on all the great DSWare games out there!

Also remember that the system came out in 2004, so by the time the new one comes out it will have had a full life cycle of 6 years and one hell of a game catalogue to boot. Smiley
