I understand where you're coming from, but since I got my original DS when it was released in Japan, I'm more than ready to jump into a brand new one. Remember it will be about a year before we get to play it ourselves.
Also, don't look at the DSlite, DSi and DSiXL as new systems, they should be seen as upgrades like the Game Boy Pocket, Game Boy Light and Game Boy Color, or even the GBA, GBA SP and Micro.
They were all just a mere refresh and this new 3DS will be the actually successor.
Remember this is coming from someone who bought an original DS, 2DS lites (hinge broke and couldn't be without a DS long enough before Nintendo shipped a new one), as well as a DSi. And I just recently got the XL which I love to pieces.
It's my favourite iteration of one of my personal favourite systems ever.
I actually love that they improve upon the system once an upgrade is viable like they are doing with their handheld line.
It would be painful for me to think that I would still be playing on my original system with not so hot screen right now, not to mention miss out on all the great DSWare games out there!
Also remember that the system came out in 2004, so by the time the new one comes out it will have had a full life cycle of 6 years and one hell of a game catalogue to boot.
